START PREPARING NOW FOR SUMMER STORM SEASON
The Gold Coast Disaster Management Unit is beginning to prepare for storm season, and we believe that we should begin preparing in our homes and offices as well.
Storm season in our neck of the woods can have the capacity to bring damaging winds, hail, torrential rain and sudden brown and black outs that can disrupt business productivity and destroy hardware.
Do you use a surge protector?
A simple surge protector can save your PC from a direct lighting strike on your premises, or a surge caused by power outage. Power irregularities are also possible from construction or heavy industry in your area.
Surge protectors however, only last for 1 or 2 good strikes, and then they need to be replaced. They also won’t keep you PC online during a power outage, for that you need a UPS – read on!
Could your business benefit from a UPS?
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) comprises of a small lead acid battery (like in your car) and a power circuit to charge the battery. Also the opposite happens, it produces 240 Volts from the battery during a power loss. A UPS will keep your computer running during a blackout so you have time to save your data and shut the PC down. Not only that, but they are better at arresting surges and spikes than the Surge protector mentioned above.
On servers they are considered absolutely critical if you are serious about keeping your data safe and your server running.
Are you saving your work and backing up regularly?
